When you download the Fraud Scanner from the App Store on your iPhone, you’ll see a message asking you to activate a VPN. Because we use VPN technology, Apple requires this notification — so it’s important that you tap ‘Activate’.
What exactly does this VPN technology do?
The app checks the web address (e.g., www.shadywebsite.com) of every site you visit. If the address matches a known suspicious website in our database, you’ll immediately get a warning.
What is a VPN and how do we use it?
Normally, a VPN reroutes all your internet traffic through a different, encrypted connection. But our app only uses the VPN to check website addresses. The rest of your internet traffic continues as usual over your regular Wi-Fi or 4G/5G connection.
What happens to your data?
We do not store your browsing history. Your internet activity remains private, and only you can see what you do online.
In short:
Our app acts like a watchdog. It monitors for suspicious websites, alerts you if something’s wrong, and leaves the rest of your internet connection untouched.
