It all started in 2014, when Bart and Nick realized how much was going wrong on the internet. They began by removing illegal content, such as stolen photos and revenge porn. That was their first step toward making the internet a safer place.
But it soon became clear that this wasn’t enough. The internet turned out to be the Wild West: if someone in the Netherlands is scammed by someone in Germany, there’s simply no good way to file a report or catch the perpetrator. That’s when the two men thought: if no one else is making the internet safer, then we’ll do it ourselves.
Nick shared the idea with Mike, an IT manager he spoke with regularly. The conversations became more serious—now they were discussing the technical feasibility of an app that could detect online fraud and warn users.
That’s how Internet Police was born, and the development of the Fraud Scanner began—an app designed to proactively protect users from online scams.
Of course, it didn’t happen without challenges. There were several technical obstacles they had to overcome. But the team pressed on, driven by their passion to make the internet safer for everyone. After two and a half years of development, the Fraud Scanner was made publicly available, and today, the app is installed on the phones and computers of many people across the Netherlands.
Bart, Nick, and Mike’s ultimate goal? For Internet Police / Fraud Scanner to become a globally recognized name, so everyone can shop, work, and communicate online with confidence.
Together against online fraud!
